OSWEGO, NY – R. Michael Potter, 58, a resident of River Ridge, Louisana, died on Sunday, Nov. 2, 2008.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Robert and Lucille (Paloni) Potter.
He was a graduate of Oswego High School and the Calhoun Merchant Marine Academy in Baltimore.
He had been a resident of River Ridge for almost 30 years.
Mr. Potter had been employed with the Waterman Steamship Company, and later with International Shipholding, serving as both a chief engineer and a port engineer.
For the past six years, he was the owner and operator of Control Technology Inc. in Harahan.
He was a member of St. Matthew’s Church, the Marine Club of New Orleans and the Colonial Country Club.
He was an avid golfer and in his younger years he also enjoyed boating.
Survivors are his wife of 30 years, the former Mary Dowdle; two daughters, Christine Potter of New York City and Elizabeth Potter of San Diego; a son, Michael Potter of River Ridge; two sisters, Kathy (William) Gallagher and Marie Fitzsimmons both of Oswego; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. from St. Paul’s Church.
Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Friday from 5-8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any contributions in Mr. Potter’s name be made to either St. Matthew’s Church or to De La Salle High School.
