Twelve students in grades second through sixth at Fairgrieve Elementary School were invited to a Pizza with the Principal celebration in the school library because they achieved 100 or more Accelerated Reader points and maintained at least an 80 average on AR tests from September through May.
Students shared their favorite literature genres and books with Principal Jean Ciesla as they ate pizza and enjoyed ice cream sundaes.
Principal Ciesla congratulated all participants on their accomplishments and encouraged continued reading throughout the summer months.
“All of you are reading experts, not only in reading but also in understanding what you read,” she said.
For their efforts, students received a “brag tag” to add to their collection and a goodie bag filled with information on summer reading adventures, a notepad, pencils, pens, and bookmarks.
Each student also selected a non-fiction or fiction book to take home.
Principal Ciesla and the students also thanked library media specialist Barb Senecal for her organization of Fairgrieve’s AR program.
During the event, Senecal shared that children’s author Kate Messner will visit students in third through sixth grade as part of the 2016-2017 AR program at the school.
Fairgrieve’s top AR readers for the 2015-2016 school year are:
