Christine Clemmens has only been volunteering with the American Red Cross for a few short months but in that time she has shown an intense dedication to the organization. Christine works a full time job at Oswego Hospital as an HR Staffing Specialist but wanted to do volunteer work for the Red Cross. So she arranged with the local Red Cross office to come in do volunteer work after her regular day job. She performs various health and safety and disaster related tasks into the early evening two or three times per week. She is also part of a group of volunteers preparing to become Community Disaster Educators.

“I’m a big believer of paying it forward” says Christine, “when something nice or uplifting happens to me during the day it’s always nice to give back to others that night.” Christine encourages everyone to volunteer and believes that the Red Cross, as a multi-faceted organization is the right place for her to do just that.

In appreciation of her efforts the Oswego branch of the American Red Cross of Central New York has named Christine as the Volunteer of the Month for March. Each month a volunteer is chosen to be honored for their work and dedication to the Red Cross. Dunkin Donuts sponsors the Volunteer of the Month program in nine offices throughout Central and Northern New York. The chosen volunteers receive a $25 gift card compliments of Dunkin Donuts.

The Red Cross is always looking for volunteers to serve in many ways: blood drive helpers, community disaster educators, receptionist, health and safety instructors, disaster action team members and a host of others. Interested? Visit the Red Cross as 333 West First Street in Oswego, on the web at www.redcrosscny.org or call 343-0967 for more information about helping out your local American Red Cross.
