Redhawks Honored at Senior Athletic Awards Ceremony


Central Square Redhawks were honored at a Senior Athletic Awards Banquet held at Paul V. Moore High School on June 2.

Central Square seniors are recognized as Honor Roll Athletes.

Section III Scholar Athlete Awards were given to Brianna Grimes and Stan Kubis for showing outstanding qualities of scholarship and athletic excellence. Grimes will graduate valedictorian of the class and Kubis will rank fourth.

Both students acted as team captains this year.

Academic Athlete Awards were presented to Kyle Robinson and Lizzie Straub for demonstrating outstanding academic achievement on top of participation in two sports.

Straub is the only student to have earned first team all-league, been involved in two sports and still earned over a 100 grade point average.

The Most Competitive Awards went to Hannah Croteau, Sean Kuehn, Mike Tolone and Kalie Schumaker. These students competed with determination, focus, mental toughness and a high level of competitive spirit.

Ryan McCarthy and Abbey Shields were presented with the Sportsmanship Awards for showcasing outstanding qualities of sportsmanship and fair play.

Coaches Awards were distributed to Emily Lewis, Taylor House, Damon Pugh, John Gough, Mikayla Baker, Morgan Moreira and Chelsie Thomas. Coaches recognized these students for demonstrating outstanding qualities of desire, work ethic and team play.

Nick Meyers and Bethany Cripps were presented with the Outstanding Athlete Awards. Outstanding athletes demonstrated leadership qualities, a strong work ethic as well as athletic ability.

Cripps was earned a News Channel 9 Athlete of the Week this year and also broke school records in pole vaulting. Central Square Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Jim Drancsak said he has never seen a student athlete put so much time and effort into succeeding.

Meyers is known for his talents in football and lacrosse. Drancsak said it seemed like Meyers scored every time he touched the ball. Meyers even played with an injured hand this year, determined to take his team to victory.

Jacob Garrow, Natalie Guzelak, John Reynolds, Tyler Stassi, Samantha Bell, Julianna Godici, Taylor House, Jenna McGrath, Ryan McCarthy, Nicholas Meyers, Christopher Pericho, Susan Gloska, Conner Simpson, Haley Drabot, Brianna Grimes, Kyrell Johnson, Sandra Moses, Jacob Kane, Mikayla Baker, Morgan Moreira, Michelle Gloska, Meghan Hoaglin, Abbey Shields, William Gordon, Bethany Cripps and Sean Kuehn.

Drancsak concluded the ceremony with these words: “Do the best that you can. Do not be denied. The sky is the limit. Do the right thing. Don’t let people bring you down. Keep moving forward. Stay positive. Don’t settle for mediocrity. Come back to see us. Best of luck in all that you do. Live this life to the fullest.”
