Reyell looking to move up Airborne Modified ranks

South Plattsburgh – Is DIRTCar Modified veteran Mike Reyell of West Chazy the model of consistency or stuck in a rut so far this season at Airborne Speedway?

The driver of the Plattsburgh Radiator/Soleil Lumber No. 02 has competed in four events and finished 10th in each one.

“The way I look at it, we’re not going backwards,” Reyell said. “The first two weeks I started about 12th and held my own. The last two races, I’ve been in the tenth row and moved up.”

Reyell noted that given the level of competition, gaining positions doesn’t come easy. “You hit a stone wall sometimes once you get closer to the front,” he said. “We’ll keep working at it.”

Reyell’s four top-10 finishes have him seventh in the Ernie’s Discount Tools point standings. Point leader Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake goes after his third win in a row and fourth of the year Saturday on AfFLAC/Warren Electric Night.

The next four spots in the Modified standings are held by Greg Atkins of Clintonville, Don Scarborough of Brandon, VT, Leon Gonyo of Chazy and defending track champion Martin Roy. No fewer than 24 Modifieds have taken the green flag in a main event this season.

All five Airborne divisions will be in action. Main gate opens at 4 p.m. Post time is 6 p.m.
