Richard F. Sherman Sr.

Richard F. Sherman Sr., 72, a resident of Volney, passed away March 25, 2011 at Oswego Hospital.

Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late James and Mildred (Watts) Sherman.

He was employed for over 30 years as an Electrical Planner with Niagara Mohawk.

Mr. Sherman was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Richard was a member of the Niagara Mohawk retirees and the American Amputee Coalition. Richard enjoyed golf, playing bridge, and spending time in his yard. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Surviving is his wife, Linda Sherman of Oswego, his two daughters, Betsy (Eric) Saunders of Oswego, and Mindy (Diego) Alfarache of Austin, TX; a son, Richard (Anne) Sherman of Oswego; a brother, James (Millie) Sherman of Oswego; one sister, Margaret (David) Wadsworth of Oswego; nine grandchildren, Rodney Stoutenger, Kyle Stoutenger, Whitney Gayne, Megan Gayne, Kaitlyn Gayne, Jacob Gayne, Shane Saunders, Jenna Saunders, and Gabriella Alfarache.

He was predeceased by his Brother, Peter Sherman; his sister, Mary Ellen Lucas; and his grandson, Michael James Saunders.

Funeral services will be held 11a.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 3 – 7p.m. on Monday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 2819 Co Rt 45 Fulton, NY 13069.

    Linda and Betsy,
    I’m sorry, I just found out about Dick’s passing…too late to attend any of the services but wanted you to know that you are in my thoughts. He will be deeply missed!
