Richard J. Delaney, Sr.,78 and the beloved husband of Sally A. Delaney of 57 years, passed away Monday evening in Upstate Medical University.
Mr. Delaney was born in Watertown, NY and was the son of the late Lawrence and Loretta Bushey Delaney.
He was the husband of Sally Remus Delaney.
Mr. Delaney served in the US Air Force from 1951- 1955 and was the recipient of the National Defense Medal and the Good conduct Medal.
He was a Communicant of St. Paul’s Church and had retired from SUNY Oswego. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post #268 and a former member of the Oswego Elks Lodge.
Mr. Delaney was an avid golfer, loved being around friends, sharing his time with his best friend and dog at his side always, Miss Maggie.
He was the loving and blessed Father to twelve children, five sons, David J. (Ellen) Delaney, Richard J. (Kathy) Delaney, Jr., Daniel J. (Anita) Delaney all of Oswego, Donald (Karen) Delaney of Liverpool, Dale J. (Tonya) Delaney of Syracuse, six daughters Deborah J. (Gary) Ayers of North Carolina, Dawn J. (Randy) Wicks of Rochester, Diana Delaney of Liverpool, Darlene J. Delaney of Binghamton, Dessa J. Delaney or Fairport, Denise J. (Scott) Dohse of Oswego, five sisters, twin sister, Mary Timleck of Ontario, Canada, Carol Cring of Florida, Janet Anderson of Batavia, Jane Broedel and Sally Ulmen both of Florida, eighteen grandchildren, Jim (Sara) Ayers, Brandon (Kate) Delaney, Dustin (Jeanette) Delaney, Sean Delaney, Jenna Delaney, Maia Delaney, Shanna Delaney, Philip Delaney, Nicholas Delaney, Rebecca Delaney, Devin Delaney, Ryan Wicks, Jason Wicks, Nathan Wicks, Jordan Delaney, Trey Delaney, Tyler Dohse, Colin Dohse, two great grandchildren Lila Ayers and Greyson Ayers.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Delaney was predeceased by a son Duane J. Delaney and a brother Thomas Delaney.
Mr. Delaney’s family would like to make a special thank you to the Oswego Price Chopper and Lowe’s for the many friendships that have been established. Also a special thanks to University Dialysis Center for the care they have provided to Mr. Delaney’s wife, Sally over the past four years.
Funeral services will be 8:30AM Friday from the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home and at 9:00AM in St. Paul’s Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Calling hours Thursday 4-7PM at the Dain-Cullinan Funeral Home.
