OSWEGO – The Oswego County Health Department’s Environmental Division recently held its 25th annual tap water tasting contest.
An informal tasting was held on June 11 at the Oswego Farmers’ Market and featured five municipal water districts.
The town of Richland swept the competition to earn the title of Oswego County’s best-tasting drinking water.
Visitors were invited to taste samples of public drinking water and cast votes for their first and second choices.
Water from the town of Richland was the tasters’ favorite, followed by the village of Pulaski, which tied with the city of Oswego for second place.
The village and town of Mexico took third place and Sandy Creek Lacona Joint Water Works brought home fourth place.
Richland’s water sample will be entered in a regional competition scheduled for August 14 at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse.
Regional finalists from around the state will compete at the New York State Fair for the state’s best-tasting drinking water.
Ninety-one people voted in the Oswego County contest, which is sponsored by the Environmental Division of the Oswego County Health Department in conjunction with the New York chapter of the Water and Wastewater Education and Outreach Committee.
