OSWEGO – An imaginary red carpet rolled out for all of the Charles E. Riley Elementary vocal stars during the school’s annual May concert: “A Night at the Movies,” at the Oswego High School theater.

Students Ethan Wise and Matthew Gordon perform hand choreography during the third grade chorus performance of “Flip, Flop and Fly!” at the school’s final concert of the 2017-18 school year.

Students Ethan Wise and Matthew Gordon perform hand choreography during the third grade chorus performance of “Flip, Flop and Fly!” at the school’s final concert of the 2017-18 school year.

Each tune from students in grades three through six, was from a popular movie.

Under the direction of Ceara Windhausen, the concert began with the fifth  and sixth grade cast of CER’s “Seussical the Musical” singing “Oh The Thinks You Can Think” before the third grade chorus beautifully performed “Flip, Flop and Fly!” from “Chicken Run.”

The fourth grade chorus sang “Lean on Me” as they performed hand choreography while they were accompanied by classmates Addison Britt, Dawson Kazayaka, Miley Sorendo and Marbielynn Concepcion on the ukulele, Ella Warner on bass and Windhausen on piano.

The fourth graders were then joined by the fifth grade chorus for a joint performance of “When You’re Alone” from “Hook.”

Fifth graders then had their own time to shine as they sang “Touch the Sky” from the movie, “Brave,” before sixth graders sang both “Double Trouble” from “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban” and “The Jabberwocky” from “Alice in Wonderland.”

CER honor choir members also sang two hits: “When You Believe” from “Prince of Egypt” and “Linus and Lucy” from “Peanuts.

The closing piece, “I’m a Believer,” from the movie “Shrek” was a hit with the combined choruses and audience members alike.

Windhausen thanked the students for their commitment to chorus throughout the 2017-18 school year, as well as piano accompanist Rebecca Horning, Oswego City School District administration and board of education members for supporting the arts at CER.
