State Senator Patty Ritchie recognized more than 50 individuals Saturday at “People Helping People: A Celebration of Adams, NY,” an event held to honor those who lent a helping hand during last month’s extreme lake effect snowstorm.
“Here in the North Country, we know about tough winters, but the people of Adams showed us that the worst can bring out the best—and that’s something worth celebrating” said Senator Ritchie. “The people of this community opened both their hearts and homes to others in a time of need, and we can’t say thank you enough for their generosity.”
The event was held on the one-month anniversary of the storm, which lasted three days and dumped more than three feet of snow on parts of Jefferson County.
The Adams area was hit particularly hard by the storm, which closed Route 81 and caused more than 150 motorists to take refuge in the community.
Making the event possible was the support from several organizations and local businesses including the Adams Fire Department, the Adams Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Maines Paper & Food Service, Inc., Dunkin’ Donuts, Pearl’s Pastry Shoppe, Kraft Foods and Tops Friendly Markets.
As part of the event, Senator Ritchie invited the public to share their “storm stories,” which can be viewed by visiting www.ritchie.nysenate.gov
