Robbery Suspect Charged with Escape

SYRACUSE, NY – Onondaga County Sheriff Kevin E. Walsh reports that detectives have charged robbery suspect Timothy Okun with escape.

Today (April 13), at approximately 11:15 a.m., Timothy Okun, 25, of 104 Jefferson St., Phoenix, briefly escaped from custody as he was escorted to the Onondaga County Justice Center.

Okun, who was arraigned earlier this morning in the Town of Clay Court in connection with yesterday’s Fulton Saving Bank robbery, was being returned to the Justice Center when he broke free from detectives’ hands as they assisted him out of their vehicle.

Okun, who was handcuffed at the time, ran out the Justice Center’s vehicle sally port and into a parking lot where he was taken into custody.

Okun was charged with escape in the 1st degree and will be arraigned in City of Syracuse Criminal Court Saturday morning.

Escape in the 1st degree is a class D felony.

Okun is currently being held on bail set by the Town of Clay Court in the amount of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond and is scheduled to reappear in the Town of Cicero Court on April 19.
