OSWEGO, NY – Robert Q. Perkins, 92, passed Friday afternoon October 31, 2014, at St. Luke’s Health Facility.
A life resident of the Oswego area, he was born in Scriba on December 30, 1921, and was the son of Herbert L. and Cora (Coon) Perkins.
He and his wife of 69 years, Jean Case Perkins, resided in Fruit Valley for nearly 65 years.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Most of his working career was spent in automobile sales, having started in the 1950s at Ball & Wilson and also selling for Gunn Buick, Jack Reynolds Chevrolet and for more than 20 years with Leon Shapiro Motor Sales.
During the late 1960s and early 1970s he owned and operated Perkins Auto Sales.
During the 1960s and early 1970s he also served as a committeeman and tax collector for the town of Oswego.
He additionally served as a member of the Oswego County Draft Board.
He was a member of the Oswego Masonic Lodge for 50+ years.
He was also a member of the West Baptist Church, acting as a deacon for several years.
Mr. Perkins was an avid stamp collector and also enjoyed collecting and selling antiques from their store, Remember When Antiques, for nearly 45 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jean; three children, Dr. Robert L. Perkins of Oswego, Mrs. John (Connie) Fischer, of Cicero, NY, and Mrs. William (Cynthia) Wilson of Del Mar, California. He also leaves seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his grandson, Christopher Perkins.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. November 10 at the Nelson Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at the Oswego Town Rural Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 1-4 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, 11 W. Albany St., Oswego.
