Rock The Disaster Set Saturday

Submitted Article

OSWEGO, NY – In an effort to raise funds for the National Disaster Relief Fund of the American Red Cross, a local resident has organized a rock concert.

“Rock the Disaster” is the project of Kristina Harmer, an Oswego resident with family ties to Texas and who was inspired by another young lady who did fundraising for the Red Cross and disaster relief earlier this month, Abbey Donahue.

After hearing about Donahue’s efforts to help hurricane victims, Harmer felt she needed to do something as well.

Harmer has received great reception from local businesses who have donated various items for her raffles, from local bands who have agreed to play for free and the community who have rallied around to support her efforts.

On Saturday, Nov. 15, “Rock the Disaster” will rock the Red Planet Skate Park on West First Street in Oswego.

At this time, Harmer has five bands scheduled to play.

They include Closed Till Spring (www.myspace.com/closedtillspring), White Picket Fences (www.myspace.com/whitepicketfence1), We Take Aim (www.wetakeaim.com), The Doppler Effect (www.myspace.com/thedopplereffectrock) and Still Rings True (www.myspace.com/stillringstrue).

Doors open at 5 p.m. with music beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Tickets are $5 pre-sale and $7 at the door.
