Ronald Curtis Maxwell, 69, born 11/1/42 in Springerville AZ. Resident of Scriba, NY passed away 12/21/11 at his Scriba home, in the arms of his loving wife.

Parents Felma Martin Hicks and Leo Maxwell predeceased. Ronald was survived by his sister Marlene Maxwell, brother Leon Maxwell, sister-in-Law Nancy Maxwell, Son Terry Maxwell residing in CA. Ron is survived by his loving wife Beverly Rose Maxwell 48 resident of Scriba and his loving sons Christian William Maxwell of Scriba and David Wayne Maxwell of WA; and his grandchildren Savannah Maxwell, Alicia Maxwell and three Great grandchildren all of WA; his loving brother-in-law William Ferguson, of New Haven, and William’s wife, Nyla Ferguson, also of New Haven and nephew Robert Ferguson, and niece Shelley Sherman; his loving brother-in-law Robert Ferguson, and his niece Beth Ferguson, both of Scriba and nephew Jimmy Ferguson. He is also survived by his extended family, Steve, Brenda, Lindsey, Carrie Aaser, of League City, Texas that he loved dearly and by all the kids he loved to call his own, Brandon Henderson, of New Haven; Katelin Honebein, of Scriba; Tyler Tourot, of Utica; and Jerry Winant, of Mexico.

Ronald and his family would like to say a special thank you with our heart felt love and appreciation to Dr. Jack Hsu, for fighting so hard for his life and for giving us another 10 years with our beloved husband and father. Also, a special thank you to Ronald’s extended family Michael Shanley, and his girls at Shanley Law Office, for fighting for Ron’s rights.

Ronald worked for J.A. Jones Construction Charlotte, N.C. for 15 years before retirement in 2003. Ronald served in the United States Navy as a submarine sailor Electricians Mate 1st Class from 1959 through 1966. Ronald was a National lifetime member of the VFW and a 100% disabled veteran.

Ronald opted out of a full military funeral with honors, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington VA, and instead choose to be laid to rest at his family home Maxwell’s Corner in the town of Scriba. We didn’t lose Ron on a battlefield, but we lost him to his 10 year battle with Squamas Cell Carcinoma due to his Services in the United States Navy. Ronald was an organ tissue donor and gave the gift of sight to a recipient on 12/21/11 for Christmas and the gift of cancer research to help all cancer patients.

Calling hours will be 4-7p.m., Friday, December 30th at Nelson’s funeral home West Albany St. Oswego.

Funeral services will be held 10a.m. Saturday at Nelson’s funeral home.

Immediately following will be a full military funeral with honors, at Maxwell’s Corner, Ronald’s family home located in the town of Scriba where he will be laid to rest.

Friends and family are invited to a gathering at Ronald’s family home Maxwell’s Corner, located in the town of Scriba immediately following funeral services.

In lieu of flowers please honor Ron by making a donation to the deserving, disabled American Veteran’s, Chapter 30, 109 S. Warren St. Suite 310, Syracuse, NY 13202, so Ron can continue to give to others, as he did throughout his life.

  1. Beverly and family-we are so sorry for your loss of Ron. We know how much you loved him. Beverly, you were every bit a loving wife. You took good care of him and always looked out for his best interest. We always admired you for that!!! We are glad he enjoyed the boat what little time you guys used it. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
