OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Rotary honored one of its own members, Tom Ingram, last week.
Kerry Barnes, town of Scriba resident and the NYS coordinator for the Quilts of Valor Foundation presented a program on QOV Foundation.
The foundation was formed in 2003 by Blue Star mom Catherine Roberts who wanted to welcome her son home from Iraq with overwhelming love and gratitude.
Roberts had the idea that linking quilt top makers with machine quilters in a national effort could achieve her goal of awarding healing quilts to returning service men and women touched by war.
The awarded quilts, called Quilts of Valor, serve as tangible reminders of appreciation and gratitude to service members.
Over time, the mission of QOVF has expanded to include military service members and veterans touched by war regardless of the conflict – declared war or otherwise – in which they served.
Barnes brought with her several quilts made by local quilters and explained the process of awarding quilts.
Ingram was honored by Barnes and Oswego Rotary with a quilt as a “thank you for his service, sacrifice, and valor.”
Congratulations Ingram and thank you Barnes.
