OSWEGO — SUNY Oswego’s RSVP is seeking volunteers to remove debris from the river and lake shorelines in Oswego as part of the seventh annual Clean Sweep, 1 to 3 p.m. April 21.
RSVP, spearheading the effort to recruit volunteers on behalf of the city of Oswego and SUNY Oswego, urges all city and campus residents, young and old, businesses and school groups, to participate in cleaning up the east and west Oswego River walks and the Lake Ontario shoreline within the city limits.
The event can help families get involved in conservation and help students earn community service hours, RSVP said. Clean Sweep runs in conjunction with Earth Day, whose official observance is April 22, the rain date for the April 21 event.
Volunteers will meet at the McCrobie Civic Center on Lake Street, adjacent to Breitbeck Park. Gloves, bags, maps and directions will be provided to teams of volunteers. The first 100 volunteers will receive a free T-shirt.
To participate, volunteers can pick up a registration form at the River’s End Bookstore, 19 W. Bridge St., or at Oswego State Downtown, a branch of The Campus Store at Bridge and West First streets. Information and a registration form are also available by email from [email protected]
