OSWEGO, NY – Russell P. Abbott, 55, a resident of Middle Road in the town of Scriba, passed away Thursday morning May 15, 2014, at his home.
Mr. Abbott was born in Oswego, the son of the late Woodard and Betty (Hammond) Abbott.
He was a life resident.
He was a veteran of the US Army.
He had been employed as an assembler at the Oswego Wal-Mart Store.
He was a 30-year member of the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as a fire police captain.
He is survived by his partner, Laura Bogart of Scriba; two daughters, Misty McCormick of Alabama and Jessica Hotaling of New Haven; four sons, Shawn Engle of Pulaski, John Davis of Oswego, Kerry Cullen of Florida and Russell Abbott II of Oswego; three brothers, Woodard Abbott Jr. of Hamilton, James Abbott of Oswego and Michael Abbott of Oswego; three sisters, Linda Hodge of Mill Spring, NC, Betty Bickford of Hannibal and Tracy Ward of Oswego; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Abbott.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the New Haven Fire Barn.
Burial will follow in New Haven Cemetery.
Following the burial, friends and family are invited to gather back at the fire barn to continue to celebrate Mr. Abbott’s life.
