Ruth M. Whitney, 90, of Phoenix, NY, passed away at St. Luke’s Health Services, Oswego, on Saturday July 23, 2011.
Born in Woodard, NY to her late parents, Ross and Caroline (Bettinger) Phares on March 20, 1921.
Ruth was a hair dresser and homemaker. She attended Phoenix United Methodist Church; Amaranth and Eastern Star Phoenix; the Farm Bureau, Oswego County;
and Home Bureau, Oswego County.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 65 years, Lewis C. Whitney in 2007; a son, Charles Whitney in 1978; two sisters, Elma Kent in 1989 and Rose Tideman in 2002; two brothers, Homer Phares in 1974 and Claude Phares in 2009.
Surviving are her two sons, Paul (Laureen) Whitney of Palermo, Alan Whitney and his companion Shawna Leigh of Phoenix; two daughters, Margaret (Kenny) Rusaw of Fulton, and Marion (Tim) Nortz of Lowville; one sister-in-law Carol Phares of Manlius; one brother-in-law Wink Whitney of Phoenix; nine grandchildren, Kristoffer, Amber, Crystal, Jennifer, Heather, Matthew, Joseph, Debbie, Alisha; three great-grandchildren, Haley, Troy, and June; several nieces, nephews, cousins.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm on Wednesday July 27, at the Allanson-Glanville-Tappan Funeral Home, Phoenix. Services are the next day, Thursday at 10 am in the funeral home, 431 Main St., Phoenix, 13135. The Rev. Diane Bradshaw will officiate.
