Samuel Curcuruto, 94, of Volney, died September 7, 2010.
Born in New York City, Sam moved to Volney when he was five years old. He owned and operated a produce farm in Volney most of his life. He had also worked as a U.S. Mail Rural Carrier and for Ontario & Western Railroad. Sam was a member and former chairman of Oswego County Vegetable Growers Association and Oswego County Co-Operative Extension. Sam was with the Farm Home Administration for 13 years and 24 years on the Town of Volney Zoning Board of Appeals.
He was a life member of the Phoenix Rod and Gun Club and an avid hunter and fisherman. He was also a former member of the Fulton Menâ€™s Chorus. Sam was predeceased by his longtime companion, Eleanor Wright.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, Rosa (Richard) Kemmis, Sal (Rosalie) Pappalardo, Leo (Wanda) Pappalardo and JoAnn (Robert) Natoli; several grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, State Route 48, Minetto with burial at St. Maryâ€™s Cemetery, Fulton. Calling hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Foster Funeral Home, 910 Fay Street, Fulton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
