Tuesday’s downpour caught one of our local sports teams.
Fulton’s girls lacrosse teams were headed to Cortland for a game when they came upon some of the difficult driving conditions the snap storm caused.
Team member Alise Tallents posted the photo on her Facebook page (seen by my son, a classmate, who showed it to me) and gave us permission to borrow it to show to you. It shows a car’s driver ignoring routine safety advice to drive through deep water.
The team was among the fortunate ones. The deluge of rain caused flash flooding in Syracuse that submerged some cars along Interstate 81 up to their windows, totaling them. A tornado may have touched down near Rome — the National Weather Service will send a team there today to investigate.
More than an inch and a half of rain fell on Syracuse. A little less than half an inch of rain fell on Fulton Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The rain, the latest in a very soggy April, flooded basements and shut down roads.
And there’s more rain in the forecast for today and tomorrow. Sigh.
