FULTON, NY – The huge crowd may have been at the Fulton Speedway Wednesday night to see the STP World Of Outlaws Sprint Cars, but when they left they won’t forget the race they saw in 25-Lap Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman Championship Qualifier.
Right from the drop of green to the checkers 2013 Fulton Speedway SUNY Canton Sportsman track champion and current point’s leader Beth Schneider and Todd Root put on a battle royal the entire distance that saw Schneider pick up the narrow win.
With her victory Schneider is now locked into the redraw for the lucrative 50-Lap Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman Championship during the 29th annual Outlaw 200 Weekend Friday-Saturday, October 3-4 at the Fulton Speedway.
Todd Root narrowly out ran Beth Schneider and the rest of the field to lead the opening lap of the 25-Lap Industrial Tire Of CNY Sportsman feature.
With 5-Laps complete Root opened about a ten-car advantage over Schneider. Corey Barker, Kyle Fink and Earl Rudy ran third through fifth while behind them the battles were two and three wide as they raced for position.
A quick yellow would wave on Lap-8 for a slowing Gregg Kimball up high in turn-two. Kimball would continue at the back of the field.
On the restart Schneider found the bite she needed on the outside groove to be scored the new leader on lap-nine.
With 10-Laps to go all eyes were on the fight for the lead as Schneider and Root were locked in a tight battle running bumper to bumper and side by side within inches of each other around the ‘High Banks’. Ron Davis III ran alone in third followed by Jordan Bennett and Barker.
Over the last laps with Schneider running the top and Root the bottom, Root could pull even with Schneider till the end of the straightaway where Schneider would use her momentum on the top to keep her narrow lead.
With the white flag waving for the last lap and the race still in doubt Schneider would use a lapped car in turns three and four to her advantage that would take away Root’s momentum and allow Schneider to be the first under the checkers over Root. Ron Davis III, Jordan Bennett and Corey Barker finished third through fifth. Dave Marcuccilli, Joe Kline, Mike Button, Kyle Fink and Mike Walton completed the top-ten.
