SANDY CREEK NY – Local residents know the holiday season is near when they see Troop/Pack 830 Scouts canvassing the area one day each November.
This year the “Scouting for Food” community service project is November 17.
For more than two decades, Troop/Pack 830 has collected thousands of pounds of donated non-perishable food to stock the Sandy Creek/Lacona Food Pantry.
There is an increased need for foods that will appeal to children’s palates.
For example, residents could kindly donate chicken noodle soup instead of clam chowder.
Smaller individual units ease distribution, too.
For example, instead of donating one three-pound box of pasta it would help to have three one-pound boxes.
Scouts will be knocking on doors “Scouting for Food” in the Sandy Creek, Lacona, Orwell and Sandy Pond areas.
Please contact anyone in the Troop/Pack organization for more information about the collection routes or to arrange for pickup.
Items can also be brought directly to the Sandy Creek United Methodist Church on Harwood Drive between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Cash donations will also be accepted.
