Scriba Man Arrested; 2-Year-Old Boy Died From His Injuries

SCRIBA,NY – The 2 year-old boy victim died this afternoon at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY.  Additional charges against Lewis are pending.

SCRIBA, NY – At approximately 8:46 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 7), a 911 call was made from 34 Hayfly Road in the town of Scriba; for an unresponsive 2-year-old boy.

Firefighters and EMTs from the Scriba Volunteer Fire Department and Menter’s Ambulance Service responded to the residence and began life saving measures on the child.

Troopers from the NYSP Fulton Barracks also responded to the scene along with members of the NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

A subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of 20-year-old Edward G. Lewis, of 34 Hayfly Road, who was alleged to have caused serious physical injuries to this 2-year-old boy, consisting of bleeding on his brain.

These injuries were alleged to have occurred as a result of Lewis violently shaking the child and causing the child’s head to strike the floor.

The child is currently in guarded condition at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

Lewis was charged with 2 counts of Assault 2nd degree (D Felony), and 1 count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child (A Misdemeanor).

He was arraigned before Scriba Town Justice, Kenneth Adkins, who remanded Lewis to the Oswego County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

Lewis was scheduled to reappear in the Town of Scriba Court on February 12 at 7 p.m.
