Second Fire Victim Identified

OSWEGO – On February 19, the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office and the Oswego County Fire Investigation Team were called to a fatal structure fire at 150 Crim Road in the town of Parish.

Two victims were located at the scene, one victim was previously identified as 49-year-old Richard Nicholas of 150 Crim Road.

The second victim of the fire has now been positively identified by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner’s Office as 50-year-old Verna Nicholas of 150 Crim Road.

Verna and Richard were husband and wife.

The Oswego County Fire Investigation Team has determined that the fire was not incendiary or criminal in nature.

The cause appears to be an electrical event that occurred near the doorway of the bedroom which prevented the couple from exiting the home.

First responders tried in vain to rescue the couple, but were forced to retreat from the home due to heavy smoke and high heat conditions.
