Second Half Hurts Oswego State Field Hockey In 2-0 Loss To Geneseo

OSWEGO, N.Y. – Michelle Milkovich tallied two second-half goals to help Geneseo upend the Oswego State field hockey team 2-0 on a sunny afternoon in Oswego. After a scoreless first half, Milkovich recorded her seventh and eighth goals of the season for the Blue Knight win. The Lakers fell to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the SUNYAC standings, while the win extended Geneseo’s current winning streak to seven games for an 8-1 overall mark and 5-0 record in the league.

Each squad managed six shots on goal during the scoreless first period despite the Blue Knights owning a 10-2 advantage in penalty corners.

The scoreboard remained inactive until the 53rd minute when Milkovich got the ball past the Oswego State defense and goalkeeper Jamie Scharfe to put Geneseo ahead 1-0. Just over 13 minutes later, Milkovich added an insurance goal for the Blue Knights after receiving a feed from Katie Gallo. The Blue Knight defense clamped down during the frame as the Lakers were unable to put a shot on goal.

Scharfe finished the contest with five saves in the losing effort, while Caitlyn Dowell recorded four saves for Geneseo.

Oswego State has a busy week ahead as it will travel to Elmira Tuesday before hosting Wells at 4 p.m. on Thursday and Morrisville at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
