State Sen. Darrel J. Aubertine has received the endorsement of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU 1199), which called the senator an “effective leader” who is “standing up for us” in the state Senate.
“With our state in a fiscal crisis, we need effective leaders like Darrel working for us in Albany to protect the health care needs of residents in the 48th District and across New York State,” said Kathy Tucker, 1199 SEIU vice-president. “Darrel has stood with us time and time again protecting health care so that we can do our jobs taking care of patients. He brought back a record increase in school aid for Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence counties and has made it a priority to cut property taxes and protect jobs. We are proud to endorse Senator Aubertine for re-election.”
SEIU members work at Canton-Potsdam Hospital in Potsdam, Carthage Area Hospital, A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital in Fulton, Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown and nursing homes throughout the three counties. The union has more than 2,000 members in the district helping to meet the health care needs of Central and Northern New York.
“I’m proud to have the support of these men and women in the SEIU who tend to our health care needs,” Sen. Aubertine said. “We are facing budget deficits and I will continue to work for all of us to protect our health care needs and education in our district. Tough decisions will have to be made, but we need to protect health care and education because investments in these areas will produce long term savings for our state.”
