The Oswego County Autism Task Force is sponsoring a free “sensory friendly” movie night for our community.
It will be held on January 25. The movie starts at 7 p.m., doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the
First Presbyterian Church, Wilcox Hall, at 4361 Church St. in Mexico.
One of the purposes of the Task Force is to engage in social activities that relate to enhancing the lives of those individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and their families.
Those with ASD often find it stressful to attend a movie in a typical theater, as most of our special people have sensory issues.
It can be extremely overwhelming to sit in a very dark room and have the volume so high.
It is also difficult for many to sit very still and very quiet for such a long time.
Because of this, the Oswego County Autism Task Force will be creating a movie atmosphere that will be sensory friendly, meaning there will be dim lights and the volume will be lowered.
We will have popcorn, water and juice boxes available at no charge.
This is a family event for parents and their children to enjoy together.
This is not a drop-off event.
Pre-registration is required.
Sign up on our FaceBook event page or contact Tammy Thompson at 349-3510.
Bring your pillows and blankets, or maybe a lawn chair if you prefer.
