OSWEGO, NY – Today (Dec. 8), Richard M. Switts, 40, of Mexico, was sentenced by the Hon. Donald E. Todd, Oswego County Court, to 10.5 years in state prison and 10 years post-release supervision based upon his conviction for multiple sexual offenses.
On October 23, after a four-day trial, a jury convicted Switts of five counts of Criminal Sexual Act in the Second Degree (Class D Felony), two counts of Sexual Abuse in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), and three counts of Sexual Abuse in the Third Degree (Class B Misdemeanor).
Switts committed the various sexual offenses against a particular female victim between 2009 and 2011, beginning when she was 13 years old.
The acts took place in the town of Schroeppel.
Chief Assistant DA Mark Moody and ADA Courtney Haviland tried the matter on behalf of the People.
The defendant was represented by Attorney Scott Kim, who practices out of Syracuse.
In regards to the conviction, District Attorney Gregory Oakes said, “I’m so impressed by the victim, who had the bravery to report these offenses and the courage to testify at trial. I commend the NYSP for their stellar investigation, which helped bring this man to justice.”
