FULTON, NY – With Christmas time fast approaching, many of us are looking forward to the joy of sitting by the tree Christmas morning opening presents with family and loved ones, followed by gathering around the table for a delicious Christmas dinner.
While this scene is often taken for granted by many, there are hundreds of families throughout Oswego County that will not be experiencing such a joyous Christmas. To help us remedy those situations, we invite area businesses, organizations, and community members to Adopt A Family for Christmas.
Last year Catholic Charities of Oswego County provided Christmas dinners, complete with turkey and all the fixings, to more than 360 hungry families in Oswego County. Additionally, we provided Christmas presents to more than 620 children. We would not have been able to do that if not for the generous donations that we received from caring community members.
This year we are all experiencing some very challenging times. A dramatic increase in demand, coupled with diminished resources, is making it very difficult to provide even a portion of the meals and presents that we did last year. Many of our friends and neighbors in Oswego County will not be able to share in the joy of opening presents and having a traditional Christmas dinner, or for some, any dinner with their loved ones.
In the true spirit of Christmas, I invite you to join us in making this holiday season special for as many families as possible by adopting a family for Christmas. Those who have adopted a family found that it was truly a rewarding experience to be able to share their blessings with others. It is a wonderful program that puts a smile on a child’s face and a tear of appreciation in a parent’s eye.
We ask that those adopting a family provide 2 or 3 unwrapped gifts for the children in the family. Additionally, grocery store gift cards or non-perishable food items for a holiday meal could be included if so desired. Adoptees may also specify what family composite they wish to provide for, such as number of children or ages of children.
Your care and concern for those less fortunate can make a difference. Your choice to Adopt A Family can truly make this Christmas, one to remember for families who are in need in Oswego County. For more information on our Adopt A Family program, or to sign up to adopt a family, please contact us at 315-598-3980 no later than Dec. 1.
I extend to you my sincerest wishes for a joyous holiday season!
