Sheldon Institute Students to Join Harborfest Children’s Parade

Submitted by SUNY Oswego

Youngsters attending SUNY Oswego’s Sheldon Institute will march Friday, July 29, in the Oswego Health Harborfest Children’s Parade to help mark the institute’s 33rd summer and to celebrate Oswego’s gala summer festival.

About 40 children who will be entering grades 2 to 4 in the fall will take part in the parade, which starts at 10 a.m. at Franklin Square/West Park and ends at Breitbeck Park on the city’s west side. Instructors and teacher assistants will join the Novice I and II students of Sheldon Institute, along with any parents who wish to do so.

The marchers will wear shirts marking the 33rd year of Sheldon Institute, a two-week educational enrichment program for children entering grades 2 to 10, this year running July 25 to Aug. 5.

Novice students have a program that includes art projects, science, language, history, cultural appreciation and daily swim time. Older students choose four different daily workshops, emphasizing problem solving and critical thinking skills in the arts, communication, cultural appreciation, science, technology, writing and more.

Co-sponsors of the Sheldon Institute are Team Sheldon and the SUNY Oswego School of Education. For more information, visit or contact Candy Rasbeck in the School of Education dean’s office, 312-2103
