OSWEGO – The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office will hold a Public Safety Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 6, at the Oswego County Highway Garage on Schaad Drive, just off Route 104 East in Scriba.
Several local businesses and organizations will be on hand for the event, which will feature a variety of activities including children’s games and prizes, a bike rodeo and power wheels track, free child ID cards, bounce house, and information on a variety of local services.
Participating agencies will include Doyle’s Bike Shop, Oswego County Highway Department, Oswego County Emergency Management Office, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, Scriba Fire Department, U.S. Border Patrol, Safekids Worldwide, Stop DWI, U.S. Army Recruiter’s Office, Oswego County Search and Rescue Team, and Oswego County Department of Social Services.
Doyle’s Bike Shop will offer free safety inspections of bicycles and is accepting donations of used bikes.
The event will also include a bounce house and slide, zorb balls and mechanical bull, free car seat checks, police K-9, kids’ games, prizes and giveaways, 50/50 drawing, a reptile show by G&G Animals, and vehicle rollover and impaired driving demonstrations.
Refreshments will be provided by Jimmie James Barbecue.
McGruff, the Crime Dog will make a special appearance.
A number of law enforcement and emergency response vehicles, including police cars, ATVs, boats, and fire trucks will be displayed.
Sheriff Reuel Todd, Undersheriff Eugene Sullivan, and Legislator Linda Lockwood, District 11, chair of the County Legislature’s Public Safety Committee, will be on hand.
A special thanks goes to Kurt Ospelt, Oswego County Superintendent of Public Works, for assistance in hosting the event.
Public Safety Day is sponsored by the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division, Exelon, Rudy’s Lakeside Drive-In, Doyle’s Bike Shop, Stonecreek Golf Club, Ruby Tuesday, Wal-Mart, Dunkin’ Donuts, Toys for Tots, Oxcreek Tactical, Oswego Speedway, Canale’s Restaurant, Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park, Big Kahuna Party Rentals, and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee.
There will be a Red Cross blood drive at the same time, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the nearby Scriba Fire Station.
