Millard “Mudd” Murphy, former mayor of Central Square and executive director of the Oswego County Conferences of Mayors, right, started the local drive.

This is the second year he has headed up the collection.

Assemblyman Will Barclay’s office collected about 100 pairs for the drive.

Other drop off locations included Fulton Savings Bank in Central Square, Mallory Wesleyan Church, Caughdenoy United Methodist Church and Victory Bible Church.

Murphy was inspired by Discount Shoe Repair shop owner Ralph Rotella who collects thousands of shoes each year and donates them to the Rescue Mission in Syracuse.

The shoes collected by Murphy will be repaired by Discount Shoe Repair if necessary and given back to the Rescue Mission in Oswego.
