The Oswego Children’s Theater’s latest production, “Shrek the Musical,” is a family affair in a couple of ways.
First, it tells the story of two young people abandoned by their families; but OCT’s production of the show involves families in quite another way, in that many members of the cast and crew are related to each other.
The Jones family is perhaps the best example of this, as the show features the talents of Lyndsie Lee Jones as director, husband Kenneth C. Jones as music director and their three-year-old daughter, Arianna Lee Jones, who makes her stage debut in the show as a bunny and one of the Pied Piper’s rats.
Other family members involved with this production include Mrs. Jones’ mother, Kelly Mosher, who acts as the show’s producer and costume designer; father, Wayne Mosher, assistant director; and sister, Amanda Mosher, who designs hair and makeup.
In addition the Moshers’ grandson, Odin Mosher, will also make his stage debut as The Dish who ran away with the Spoon and one of the Pied Piper’s rats.
Other families involved in this production include the Shambo siblings featuring Ella as the Pied Piper, Tate as Puss-n-Boots, and Issac Shambo as Humpty Dumpty. Brothers Baxter Mason and Zander portray Pinnochio and the Ugly Duckling respectively. Sisters Maddie Loomis, as Teen Fiona and Maya as the Shoemaker’s Elf will make their stage debut with OCT.
Newcomers this past week are Tegan Margrey who will be Alice in Wonderland and her brother Mason as one of the Pied Piper’s rats.
Costume co-designer is Florence Ross, and is joined by her grandson, Gregory Thomas, who will make his stage debut as the Cow Who Jumped over the Moon. Her youngest daughter, Angela, will assist in the makeup design for the production.
The show also features the talents of Doug Schneider in the role of Shrek, Leah Mullen as Fiona, Catrina Edwards as Donkey, Ryan Smith as Lord Faarquad and Caroline Gray as the Dragon.
Supporting cast includes Ethan Cliff as Little Shrek, Audrey Donavan as Pig number 1, Abigail Lareau as the Pig number 2, Grace Mason as Young Fiona, Megan Murtha as The Fairy Godmother, Juliana Smith, as Gingy, Cody Vincent as the Captain of the Guard, Faith Washington, as the Wicked Witch.
In addition the supporting cast appears in multiple other roles as townspeople, guards and various fairy tale characters.
“Shrek the Musical” was adapted for the stage by David Lyndsay-Abaire, who wrote the book and lyrics, with music by Jeanine Tesori.
Abby Field will act as stage manger assisted by Faith Washington. Adam Thompson will assist with the lights.
“Shrek the Musical is presented through special arrangement with Music Theater International.
