OSWEGO, NY – Local youngsters learned safety tips theyÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢ll use while skateboarding and bike riding during Oswego HealthÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s recent Skate Bike Ride event.
Staff from Oswego HospitalÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s emergency room fitted more than 100 youths with free bike helmets.
ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…â€œThis event has grown every year,ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â said Ellen Lafond, R.N. emergency department clinical manager. ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã…â€œAnd it is a great opportunity to promote safety and healthy lifestyles for kids.ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã‚Â
Those who attended Skate Bike Ride could enter into several drawings after they collected bracelets from five stations that each promoted an aspect of a healthy lifestyle.
Prize winners in the photo include Tori Cappelletti, who won a 2007 $5 gold eagle coin donated by Bob Plenge; Christopher Murray, who won a full skateboard deck donated by The Red Planet Skate Park; and Zach Mills, who won an SE BMX bike donated by Ben Turner, of MurdockÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s, who is also pictured.
Not pictured is Justin Zukobski, who won an ipod donated by Leadership Oswego CountyÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šÂ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s class of 2008, which took part in the event.
