FULTON, NY – On November 20 at 7 p.m., Judy Levan, warning coordination meteorologist of the Buffalo office of the National Weather Service, will provide the members and guests of the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) with a Skywarn training session on winter weather hazards.
The program will be held at the Oswego County Building in Fulton across from Mimi’s.
This training provides information for our spotters on how to measure snowfall accurately, some winter weather definitions, typical weather patterns that bring winter weather to Central New York and the greatest winter hazards.
Our trained spotters have worked with the NWS for years reporting summer storms, but winter also brings a different kind of weather hazard that the NWS would like input on.
Levan will brief the group on what to report and how to give them an accurate report.
The public is invited to this event.
Anyone interested in the Skywarn program can contact Judy LaMay, KC2SUM, the Oswego County OCEC/RACES Skywarn coordinator, though the Emergency Management Office in Fulton.
