OSWGO, NY – The Oswego City School District is gearing up to welcome the next class of Pre-Kindergarten students.
Applications for the Oswego City School District Universal Pre-Kindergarten program are now available.
The program is designed for children who were born between Dec. 2, 2005 Ã¢â‚¬â€œ Dec. 1, 2006.
It is offered free of charge and children are selected by lottery, according to Cathleen Chamberlain, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction.
Chamberlain noted, Ã¢â‚¬Å“The goals of the program are to meet the individual needs of our four-year old children in the area of social, academic, language, emotional and physical development.Ã¢â‚¬Â
The UPK teachers and staff strive to create a warm and nurturing environment for all our four-year-olds.

This prepares them to successfully enter kindergarten the following year.
The UPK teachers and district work closely together to deliver the best first educational experiences for your children.
It is anticipated that sessions will be available at all five Oswego elementary schools.
The program will run 180 days in accordance with the school district calendar.
There will be a maximum of 18 students in each class and the youngsters will be taught by a certified teacher and teaching assistant.
An open house will be held Feb. 24 at each of the elementary school beginning at 6 p.m.
Chamberlain explained, Ã¢â‚¬Å“Children are welcome to accompany parents, but are not required to attend. This is an opportunity for you to see the classroom and learn more about our UPK program.Ã¢â‚¬Â
Anyone who would like their child considered for the program can complete an application that is available at all elementary schools, or the Office of Curriculum and Instruction on the first floor of the Education Center.

Chamberlain explained, Ã¢â‚¬ÂApplications must be returned by March 27 to the Universal Pre-K Office at the Education Center or can be submitted on line at www.oswego.org
Parents and guardians will be notified if their child has been selected by April 9.
At that time information regarding the registration process will be included.
