The Port of Oswego Authority,(POA), has awarded W.D. Malone Trucking and Excavating, Hannibal, a nearly $4 million contract to repair and improve its West Terminal Pier,  said William Scriber, POA executive director and CEO. A ceremony marking the start of this project was held today at the site. Funding for the project comes from NY State, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and the POA.

“The West Terminal Pier is in disrepair due to recent high water and wave events,” Scriber said. “This work will be undertaken to reestablish, maintain and protect this portion of the pier.”

Construction will include the installation of 308 linear feet  of steel sheeting to encase the existing timber cribbing, replacement of the concrete cap, and asphalt resurfacing along the north end of the West Terminal Pier, Scriber said.

A U.S./Canadian research study shows that, over the past five years, The Port of Oswego Authority made a $513 million impact on the local and regional economy and supported 2,229 jobs by its maritime activity. The Port of Oswego generated $201.2 million in wages, salaries, and local consumption expenditures for the regional economy.
