The Altmar-Parish-Williamstown Central School District JV and Varsity Girls’ Volleyball will move from the winter sports season to fall sports season for the 2016-2017 school year.
The decision to move to the fall has been in discussion for the past two years. Many factors went into making the decision.
“It is our belief that this move provides a tremendous opportunity to enhance several of our athletic programs,” said APW Athletic Director Jamie Coppola.
The move will create more space in the gymnasium during the winter sports season, allowing for longer practices for both the girls’ volleyball and girls’ and boys’ basketball teams.
It will also eliminate almost all late evening practices (7 to 9 p.m. slots) during the winter season as well as eliminate weather cancellations for volleyball.
The girls’ volleyball will play the following Liberty National Division Teams: Hannibal, Bishop Grimes, Bishop Ludden, Hamilton, Lafayette and Syracuse Academy of Schools (SAS).
Volleyball matches will be able to start at 4:30 p.m. for JV and 6 p.m. for varsity, following most other APW sports schedules such as football games, soccer, track meets and more.
“This move will be the most beneficial to our student athletes,” said Coppola, who invites students, parents and community members with questions to contact him at 625-5232 or [email protected].
