Oswego’s Michaela Auer capped an excellent sophomore season Saturday by qualifying for the state swimming championships.

Auer posted a 1:10.48 in the 100 yard breaststroke.  Her 6th place finish beat the maximum state qualifying time by 0.18 seconds.

In the same event, Fulton’s own top sophomore, Sara Nelson, finished in a tie for 7th place, missing the state qualifying time by five one-hundredths of a second, less than the length of a finger.

Auer was the only Oswego or Fulton swimmer to qualify for the state meet.  Oswego’s 200 yard medley relay team missed qualifying by about 1.5 seconds, finishing 4th, while the 200 free relay team missed by a second, also finishing 4th.

For Fulton, Nelson came brutally close to a second qualifying time, falling 0.27 seconds short of the needed time in the 50 yard freestyle sprint.  She finished 6th.
