PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Oswego State men’s basketball team suffered a 74-60 loss to league-leading Plattsburgh on the road Friday night. With the misstep, the Lakers are now 9-11 on the year and 6-7 in the SUNYAC while Plattsburgh improves to 16-4, 13-1.
Plattsburgh jumped out to an early eight-point lead but Oswego responded with a 28-15 run over the next 13:44 to hold what would prove to be its largest lead of the game, 35-29. The Lakers took a 38-35 edge into the locker room at half but the Cardinals were able regain its momentum in front of a home crowd. Oswego held the Plattsburgh advantage to five or less for the first half of the second stanza before the Cardinals pulled away in the final 10 minutes.
It was a team effort for the Lakers, as 12 players saw time on the floor, all 12 recording at least one rebound. Louis Avellino paced Oswego on the boards with five while Tyler Pierre and Liam Sanborn each collected four. Joe Spinola and Josh Ivey were next with three apiece.
On offense, 10 of the Lakers registered two points or more, led by senior Ian Schupp’s 15. Brandan Gartland continued to be a model of offensive efficiency, scoring nine points on 60-percent shooting from the field. The sophomore was also a perfect 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
Oswego continues to play in the North Country on Saturday, as it readies to face Potsdam in a 3 p.m. tip-off.
