OSWEGO, NY – Oswego Speedway’s second night of racing as part of a very busy month of July will see one of the most action packed shows of the season Saturday, July 8, when a $1,000 to win Demolition Derby and 67-lap Race of Champions Asphalt Modified Tour special joins a regular program of Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank Small Block Supers.

This Saturday will mark the second appearance for the Ground Pounders of 2017, after they first appeared on Opening Night back in May. Opening Night Race of Champions action was won by Bryan Sherwood, who picked up his first ever Oswego checkered flag over Andy Jankowiak, Patrick Emerling, Tommy Catalano and Tyler Rypkema.

Saturday’s 67-lap event, in honor of the 67th Anniversary season at the ‘Steel Palace,’ will be the final appearance of the season by the RoC Tour and the last chance to see the Modifieds at Oswego before the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour rolls into town on September 2 as part of Budweiser International Classic Weekend.

Approaching July 8, Emerling leads the very competitive RoC standings ahead of Jankoiwak, George Skora, Mike Leaty and Catalano. Nearly two dozen cars are expected to compete this Saturday night.

For the second year in a row, this time on July 8, a $1,000 to win Demolition Derby will take place at Oswego Speedway. Many more cars are expected to compete in this year’s event, which will take place at the completion of the 50-lap Novelis Supermodified feature.

Several drivers are expected from the North Country, as well as from Oswego County, including Small Block Supermodifed veteran Mike Bruce who is aiming to compete in the derby.

Demolition Derby entry forms and rules can be accessed by emailing Debbie Bond at [email protected] or Camden Proud at [email protected]. Both forms are also available on the speedway’s Facebook page.

With two first-time winners in the past two races, action is heating up for the Small Block Supers as the point race tightens heading into the speedway’s busy summer stretch.

Andrew Schartner, Mike Bond, Jesse Bearup and Greg O’Connor have all gone to victory lane thus far this season, but it’s defending champion Dave Cliff sitting atop the Road to the Championship standings by a long shot with a 36-point lead over second place Schartner and nearly a 70 point lead over Jack Patrick, Bearup and Doyle who currently complete the top five in the standings.

Dave Shullick Jr. has been to victory lane three times this season in his full-time Novelis Supermodified debut and it shows as Shullick leads the standings with 447 points ahead of his teammate Otto Sitterly, who is still in search of his first feature win since September 2015. Team Nicotra leads the top five in standings over defending champion Michael Barnes, first time winner on the season Keith Shampine, and defending Budweiser International Classic 200 champion Jeff Abold.

The Supermodifieds will run just their second 50-lapper of the season this Saturday.

All of the action will kickoff with the start of hot laps at 2 p.m., with qualifying going green at 4 p.m. Heat racing action will get under way earlier this week, with the first Modified heat going trackside promptly at 5 p.m.

Tickets are available by calling the speedway box office at (315)-342-0646. General admission prices for the huge program are set at just $25, with kids 16 and under admitted free with a paid adult.
