FULTON, NY- (By Dave Medler) – Fans and teams will have to wait a couple of extra weeks this year for the much-anticipated Brewerton Speedway season to get under way. The longer than expected unseasonable weather has forced the season opener to be pushed back until night, May 2. The April 15 test and tune has been rescheduled to April 29 at 6:30 p.m. However, Fulton Speedway will pick up the slack by expanding the April 26 “Highbank Holdup” to a two-day event.
All four of Brewerton’s weekly classes will anchor a newly scheduled “Preliminary Night” for the Highbank Holdup on April 25 at 7pm at Fulton. Tracey Road Equipment Modifieds will headline the Friday Night portion with a 35-lap feature event, which will serve as a valuable tune-up for the next day’s much anticipated 100-lap Super DIRTcar Series kick-off. Nationwide Insurance IMCA Modifieds and Four Cylinder Superstocks will also be in action on Friday Night. The Pro Race Cars Mod Lites will now race the Friday Night program instead of Saturday as previously scheduled. SUNY Canton Sportsman, NAPA Late Models and A-Verdi 305 Sprints will have dedicated hot lap sessions during the Friday night program as well for those that choose to.
“With cold, wet and wintery weather lasting as late as it did, the Brewerton grounds are simply saturated. It has hampered our ability to get the facility race ready and we feel it’s best for us to let it dry and be ready for a grand 2014 opening on May 2,” said track marketing director, Cory Reed. “Fulton, on the other hand, is race ready and making the Highbank Holdup a two-day show we feel is a great compromise.”
Teams looking to shake down their cars will have an opportunity at the Fulton Speedway test and tune, scheduled for April 19 at 4 p.m.
Joining the Super DIRTcar Series big blocks for the Saturday portion of the “Highbank Holdup” will be SUNY Canton Sportsman competing for a $1,000 first prize and a guaranteed spot in the lucrative Outlaw Weekend Industrial Tire of CNY Sportsman Championship. American Racer and Hoosier tires are each permitted for Sportsman competition that day.
None of the Highbank Holdup features will award track points, though the race winners in the Mod Lite, IMCA Modified and Four Cylinder features will earn a guaranteed starting spot for the Outlaw Weekend Championship Weekend on October 3 and 4.
