Men’s and Women’s Basketball Player Have Standout Players For Athlete Of The Week

Oswego State has named freshman men’s basketball Player Chad Burridge (Hannibal) and senior women’s basketball player Heather Merino (Queensbury/Lake George) as the college’s Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 16th.

Burridge contributed 24 points to the 116-68 win over SUNY Canton on Nov. 15th in the programs season opener. Burridge went 10-13 from the floor and went 4-5 from the foul line. He also did well on the boards recording 4 offensive rebounds and 3 defensive rebounds for the Lakers.  Burridge finished the game with 3 blocked shots showing his diversity on both sides of the court against SUNY Canton.

Burridge is a Public Justice major and is the son of Dean and Debra Burridge Men’s Basketball will have their next game at Max Ziel Gymnasium, Laker Hall at 8:00 against Cazenovia.

On the women’s side Heather Merino scored a game high 22 points for the Lakers leading them to an 81-49 victory over Cazenovia in their home season opener. Head Women’s Basketball Coach Tracey Bruno stated “we were very pleased with Heather’s ability to take on such a significant offensive role in the game as well as being a team player which ultimately lead to the victory over Cazenovia.” Merino went 8-12 from the floor and was 6-6 from the free throw line. She recorded 5 offensive rebounds and 2 defensive rebounds for the Lakers. Merino proved what a well rounded athlete she was by finishing the game with 5 assists, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot.

Merino is a Wellness Management Major and a Senior Co-Captain of the women’s basketball team.  Women’s basketball will have their next game Friday, Nov 21st against SUNY Cobleskill at the Max Ziel Gymnasium in Laker Hall at 8:00pm.
