GENESEO, N.Y. – The No. 5/7 Oswego State Lakers tied nationally-ranked Geneseo 2-2 in overtime in a top-10 road battle on Friday night in the Ira S. Wilson Ice Arena. With the draw, Oswego remains undefeated in the SUNYAC at 3-0-1 and moves to 5-1-1 overall. The Knights are now 7-2-1 on the year and 5-1-1 in league action.

Oswego used the second period to switch some momentum.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the middle period, Josh Zizek tallied his team-leading seventh goal of the season to push the game back to all square. The goal came just 1:02 into the frame and as assisted by AJ D’Orazio and Aaron Huffnagle.

Zizek continued to propel the Lakers later in the second, this time coupling with Mitch Herlihey on a pair of assists for a Michael Gillespie tally.

The freshman was able to notch his second goal of the season at 15:21 off Zizek’s Laker-high sixth assist of the year and Herlihey’s fourth helper of 2017-18.

Geneseo was able to even the score before the final intermission on a power play. Following a slashing penalty by Charlie Pelnik, the Knights knotted the game 33 seconds into the extra-man opportunity.

The Knights’ first goal came 3:22 after the opening faceoff but Oswego minimized the damage by getting to the break without allowing a second point.

Goalie David Richer allowed just two goals in 65 minutes of work, stopping 24 Geneseo shots in the stalemate.

As a team, the Lakers outshot the Knights 29-26 and recorded 10 more blocked shots than the host (25-15).

Oswego was whistled for three penalties while Geneseo was never caught for an infraction.

The Lakers will return to the ice at 7 p.m. on Saturday when they host Brockport for Teddy Bear Toss night.

Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal to the game to throw on ice after Oswego’s first goal. All stuffed animals collected will be distributed to needy children in Oswego County.
