OSWEGO, N.Y. – Plattsburgh built a 14-point lead in the first 4:24 that the Oswego State men’s basketball was never able to recover from in a 81-66 loss at Max Ziel Gymnasium on Friday night. Chris Ruiz set the tone for the Cardinals as he scored eight points of his game-high 25 points in the opening minutes of the game en route to Plattsburgh shooting a blazing 73.3 percent on 11-of-15 shooting from behind the three-point line. The Lakers pulled to within six points with under five minutes left in the game, but the Cardinals sealed the victory when Steve Thomas’ four-point play put Plattsburgh ahead by 12 with 2:28 left. Stanley Francois (Sr., Valley Cottage, N.Y.) led Oswego State, which dropped to 10-11 overall and 4-10 in the SUNYAC, with 13 points. The Cardinals moved to 14-7 overall and 9-5 in the league. The Lakers will face Potsdam tomorrow at 4 p.m., while Plattsburgh will travel to Cortland for a 4 p.m. tip-off.
