OSWEGO, N.Y. – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team tied No. 1/2 Plattsburgh, 2-2, at the Marano Campus Center Arena on Saturday afternoon.
With the tie, the Lakers gave the Cardinals their first conference non-win of the season.
Oswego moves to 8-11-2 on the season and 4-7-1 in NEWHL play while Plattsburgh moves to 17-2-2 overall and 11-0-1 in conference action. The tie was the first recorded by Oswego against Plattsburgh at home.
Oswego took an early 1-0 lead over Plattsburgh. A little over six minutes into the first period, Philomena Teggart gained control of the puck after it bounced off the glass.
Teggart then passed the puck to Olivia Ellis, who took a shot from between the faceoff circles, sending it into the right side of the Cardinal net. The goal was Ellis’ seventh of the season, tying her for the team lead with Andrea Noss, while Teggart collected her fifth assist.
After Plattsburgh scored two goals, Oswego came back to tie the game in the final 17 seconds of the third period. Victoria Blake slapped a hard shot from the point, sending it through traffic.
The puck sailed just over the Cardinal goalie’s leg into the net to make it a 2-2 game.
With neither team scoring in overtime, that score became final.
Mariah Madrigal played the entire game for the Lakers, making 23 saves against the Cardinals.
Oswego killed three of its five penalties on the day.
The Lakers continue NEWHL play with a two-game series against Cortland on Friday and Saturday.
On Friday, the teams play at 2 p.m. in Cortland, and on Saturday they play at 7 p.m. in Oswego.
