OSWEGO – On Saturday, the Oswego Sub Shop Peewees hosted Valley and emerged victorious with a 6-3 final score.
Oswego opened the scoring with Logan Crannell finishing a nice goal in front from an Eric Mashaw assist with 9:47 remaining in the first period.
Two minutes later, Crannell found Brayden Miller who fired one past the Valley Goalie to make it 2-0.
Valley managed to get on the board with 5:05 remaining in the first as Tanner Long cut Oswego’s lead in half.
To open the second period Brayden Miller finished a breakaway as Connor Morgia flipped the puck out of Oswego’s zone down the ice – Miller beat the Valley defensemen in a race for the puck and neatly slipped it in to make it 3-1.
Mason Kurilovitch made it 4-1 on a nice backhanded shot assists went to Mashaw and Lucas Bruns.
Once again Valley cut Oswego’s lead in half as Gavin Dunford beat Keegan Finch (13 saves) to make it 4-2
The third started well for the Sub Shop side as once again Brayden Miller slipped through the Valley defense and buried his breakaway chance. Assists were from Louie Roman and Mashaw.
Valley got its last goal with 5:36 remaining. But Oswego’s Jordan Carroccio would get a goal less than two minutes after the Valley Tally, making it 6-3, on a blast from the point, Logan Crannell fed her from the corner.
Coach Ben Miller said of his squad, “The kids were working hard today and our speed definitely gave Valley some trouble. Hopefully we can use this game to gain some momentum as we head into the middle of our season.”
On Sunday the Oswego Sub Shop squad traveled the the Elmira College Murray Athletic Center domes to take on Corning.
Oswego’s Brayden Miller scored on breakaway just 1:19 into the contest, Logan Crannell was credited with an assist. Oswego took 19 shots in the first period, but Corning’s keeper turned away all but Miller’s chance.
Midway through the second Oswego scored four quick goals to put the game out of reach.
Connor Morgia brought the puck deep into the Corning zone and slid a pass to Michael Fierro who was camped off the back post, Fierro tucked it in to make it 2-0.
Less than a minute later, Louie Roman wristed one past Corning net-minder Bob Frick. Crannell had the assist.
Roman got another on his next shift, with Miller assisting and the period finished 5-0 with Miller scoring with 7:49 remaining in the period.
Corning scored a goal with Nine minutes left in the contest to make it 5-1, but Sub Shop Defense-man Joe Brodeur got Oswego going again in the 3rd with an unassisted tally, he took the puck from his end all the way down and made it 6-1 Oswego.
Just after Brodeur’s goal, Corning had their best chance of the day foiled by Oswego net-minder Bradley Livsey.
Livesey stopped a one-timer with a spectacular glove save and held the net the rest of the way finishing with five saves.
The 7th tally for Oswego came as Louie Roman slid a nice pass in front to Logan Crannell, who made no mistake moments later Crannell fed Miller who completed his hat trick.
The final goal for Oswego came with just over a minute remaining as Michael Fierro fed a pass to Lucas Maniccia who fired a shot to make it 9-1.
Miller said of the Sub Shop team, “It was nice to see so many assisted goals today. The kids really were working the puck in the Corning zone.”
The Sub Shop Peewees travel to Montreal this weekend to compete in a tourney.
