OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 3/4 Oswego State men’s ice hockey team fell to the Potsdam Bears, 1-0, at home on Friday night. With the loss, the Lakers move to 18-4-2 on the season and 13-1-1 in SUNYAC play, while the Bears improve to 10-9-5 overall and 6-7-2 in conference action.

Oswego was consistently relentless on offense throughout the night. By the end of the game, the Lakers outshot the Bears, 42-20. Freshman Max Novick took 10 shots, which was both a game-high and career-high.

The Lakers’ best chance to score came with a little over halfway through the second period. With two Bears in the penalty box, Oswego had a 5-on-3 advantage, but was unable to score. Joseph Molinaro took the Lakers’ only shot of the power-play.

Goalie David Richer played the entire game for the Lakers, making 19 saves. Richer’s most impressive save came with just under six minutes to play, when Ben Mariano of Potsdam had a one-on-one situation with Richer. Mariano took a hard shot, but the goalie was able to make the stop.

Potsdam’s lone goal on the night came on a first period power-play, but the Lakers were able to kill their other two penalties.

Next, the Lakers cap off the regular season at 7 p.m. on Friday when they host Plattsburgh for the sold-out Whiteout Game.

Friday will also be Senior Night, as the Lakers honor Trent Durocher, David Ferreira and Mitch Herlihey.
