OSWEGO, NY – The Oswego State women’s ice hockey team used multiple third period goals to earn a 3-1 victory over visiting Neumann University on Friday afternoon in the Marano Campus Center Arena. Oswego improves to 6-2-2 overall and 4-1-2 in ECAC Women’s West play while Neumann drops to 1-8-1, 1-5-1.
In the third period, with the Lakers staring at a 1-1 tie, Olivia Ellis stole back both the momentum and the lead.
Ashley Lyman dropped off a pass Jayme McCreary who then sent a puck towards the far post where Ellis was waiting. The sophomore beat the Knights’ goalie to make it a 2-1 Laker margin at 6:58, which proved to be the game-winner.
Less than three minutes later, Oswego added an insurance tally from Aramburu.
The junior received a pass from Andrea Noss directly off a faceoff and then sent a rocket off the crossbar and into the back of the net.
Oswego jumped out to an early lead with a goal at 8:20 of the first period. Brianna Rice took a shot wide that ricocheted to the blue line and was kept in the offensive zone by Alli Ullrich. The junior then fired a shot from just inside the line that found Rice’s stick and deflected past the Neumann goaltender.
During the period, the Lakers outshot the Knights 13-3.
Neumann’s lone goal came at 17:30 of the middle period to send the teams to the final intermissions locked at one goal apiece.
The Lakers dominated the stat line, owning a 15 shot spread (42-27) and won 34-of-53 faceoffs.
Both teams combined to go 0-for-3 on the power-play, with Oswego having two of those chances.
Women’s ice hockey will return to action at 3 p.m. on Saturday when it closes out its two-game home series with Neumann.
