OSWEGO, NY – With the announcement of the tentative five-race schedule that will be the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series Tour in 2018, Proud Motorsports is excited to announce team owner Tim Proud’s return to the driver’s seat as part of series events this coming season.
Tentatively set to kick off on May 12 at the Evans Mills Speedway, the Small Block Supers will appear at the North Country twice in 2018, including once again on September 16 for the second annual ‘Fall Brawl 50.’
On top of Evans Mills, the tour is set to head to the Spencer Speedway in June for the first time after last year’s rainout as well to two more first-time locations at the end of the season which are undisclosed at this time.
“We are looking forward to hitting the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series events again in 2018. Mike (Bruce) and Cam (Proud) have done a great job with it and its been enjoyable for me to get back behind the wheel and have some fun,” Proud said. “We were running up front at Evans Mills last season and came away with a solid top ten finish. I’d like to hopefully be able to contend for the win there both in May and September and then see what we’ve got at the other tracks.”
Proud finished second in his heat race in last September’s Fall Brawl before drawing the outside pole for the main event.
The former Oswego campaigner wound up battling 2017 Oswego champion Dave Cliff for the lead for several laps in the early stages of event before a mid-race tangle sent the driver of the Step One Creative No. 54 to the back of the pack, forcing him to battle back through the 23-car field and manage a top 10 effort in his first main event since 2004.
“It’s been a while since I’ve ran a feature, so it was nice to run up front and get my confidence back, realizing that we have a car that can win,” Proud said. “Last September we had a great shot at it, but really just didn’t have any luck go our way. I think if we can get a good run in one of the heats up there and start up towards the front again that we have a great shot at being in victory lane.”
Should the former Oswego Small Block runner-up and many time top five finisher manage a victory with the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series in 2018, it would be Proud’s first ever Small Block Supermodified main event win as a driver, which would add to prior accomplishments that include eight wins as car builder, four top five finishes, and four heat wins.
